MAYDAY AIR JAMAICA

Let us unite in the diaspora to take back our country from corruption and decadence...stand up for truth and integrity ..stand up for victimized workers, and the right of our traveling public and visitors to our island right to safe skies, where air safety is not dictated by politics and politicians but by the people with the knowledge of how to ensure safe skies. The sale of Air Jamaica to foreign interest is not in our national interest let us support JALPA and the Air Jamaica workers in their bid to acquire our national airline.  Politicians have silenced air safety issues in Air Jamaica and placed us all at risk. Now we have the national asset being sold to Caribbean Airlines while the pilots are prepared to acquire and /or should be assisted with the workers in acquiring the airline. Together we can begin to stem this corruption, do justice to our workers and influence the sale of our only remaining national asset.  Business-man Gordon Butch Stewart successfully operated and grew the airline, during his ownership. We now seem again to require both his capital and expertise. Mr Stewart who presided during the period where I was unjustly dismissed was therefore unjustly enriched during the same period.  What is proposed is that my claim as outlined below against the Jamaican government is for US $26 million, Mr Stewart, then as an angel investor who previously benefitted from the airlines, would now match this sum and provide this as operating capital over the short term, take an equity position and provide management while additional financing is sought.  The government of Jamaica should advise the IMF that they have settled with me and given the settlement to the pilots representing their purchase and for an additional $1.00 should transfer ownership while providing an initial line of credit for the first year operating cash requirements to assist the workers. This would benefit all the Jamaican people, provide a plan to stop the drain on the taxpayer, while providing the employment our country so desperately needs and more importantly recognize the role of the tourist sector and its participants.  Mr Butch Stewart has to be involved in the resolution of both the sale of Air Jamaica and damages flowing from my unjust dismissal and victimization during which he was unjustly enriched.  The Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller removed my matter via the attorney general from the Supreme Court in Sept 2006.  This is the only politician with a demonstrated integrity from either party in the matter of Air Jamaica and its workers.  Again I call upon the leader of the opposition for assistance, beyond just the pilots and to the workers of Jamaica, as once again the airline is under siege.

An open letter to the Prime Minister of Jamaica

RT Hon Bruce Golding,

Dear Prime Minister Golding,

On October 30th 2009 I wrote an open letter to your office, a copy of which was mailed to you on Nov 03 09.

At that time I asked you to administer equity from you office as Justice had failed at the Supreme Court of Jamaica, and as Prime Minister of our country to please attend to remedying the situation re; my unjust dismissal by Air Jamaica and victimization by the Supreme Court of Jamaica and members of your government..

To date there has been no response from your office, whereas at least the previous Prime Ministers all responded.  However Mr. Prime Minister, as I am sure you appreciate providence has given me space.

Several years ago as President of JALPA with direct responsibility for Safety in the industry as it pertains to commercial passengers, in several meetings with the Government of Jamaica, and Air Jamaica have pleaded to have low level wind shear systems be installed in Jamaica in view of the weather, pilot fatigue and the route structure of various carriers into Jamaica.

In the incident for which my life was threatened for insisting on this alert system, Independence Air reported shear as a factor on their missed approached in which Tower Air almost killed 600 people in a near mid air collision, and we could not get compliance with safety reporting procedures as required by Law, by either Air Jamaica or the Government.

Several years ago as president of JALPA, I sat with the then Prime Minister and Minister of Transportation with the then Attorney General at Vale Royal and among other items requested that a stop way be built at the departure end of Runway 12 as the road/ditch presented the distinct possibility of aircraft breakup following a reject on this runway. Today we see the effects of the poor engineering construct to which we referred.  An ever present danger to crews operating heavy aircraft at maximum weights leaving Jamaica during the summer.

Several years ago an Air Jamaica A300 aircraft departed Kingston for Miami lost an engine overhead Ocho Rios, decided to return to Kingston,  declared an emergency and requested emergency equipment be available at their estimated time of landing in Kingston.  The aircraft landed in Kingston without event and the passengers disembarked normally. An hour after the aircraft landed, an ambulances and two attendants arrived at the airport with siren blasting, and were advised that fortunately their services were not required.

Several years ago a passenger while eating a meal on board an Air Jamaica aircraft parked at the ramp, choked.  The crew applied emergency first aid while a radio call was made for medical assistance via air traffic control. The crew was advised that there was no nurse on duty at the time at the airport. The passenger died.

Several years ago I insisted as President of JALPA that aviation and air safety could not be allowed to become a political item, and a matter of whether one was a PNP or JLP should not affect safety, since I was neither, and stood for the travelling public the taxpayers and principles of safety in the industry. The PNP government realizing that there were principles involved, therefore left the matter for your office.

On December 22 09, irrespective of your silence providence has spoken and the people of Jamaica once more found grace with the God of Israel.

Mr. Prime Minister one day you too shall face a Judgment seat. Allow Equity and Justice to rule with you in your throne and give righteousness a chance, perchance there might be deliverance under your heavy hand.

The nation cannot prosper as long as Politicians, Judges and Businessmen continue to conspire to defraud the taxpaying public and people of Jamaica, in disregarding their safety and the visitors to the island. Even in the third world there are minimum standards for Aviation Safety.

I adjure you as a travelling man, I am sure you are aware of your obligations of Justice and Equity under your seal.  Please settle this matter, while you have an opportunity.

Consider this Council; the truth is we are and have been courting disaster.  American Airlines Flight 331and the injuries sustained by the passengers to include the ongoing safety of all the visitors to Jamaica continue to remain your responsibility.

Regrettable,

Wesley Sampson  Contact email; admin@maydayairjamaica.com
